South Wilts preview

A FACE from the past may have come back to haunt the defending champion of the Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League.

Of the dozen players who kick off the 12th season at Salisbury Snooker Club on November 19, two will be making their debuts.

It was 29 years ago that Simon Peacock competed in a junior section in Andover with a certain John Hunter.

The 42-year-old century-breaker from Winterbourne Gunner now has nine-time South Wilts champion Hunter in his sights.

The second new name is David Rice, 20, from Fordingbridge, the older brother of last season’s highest placed under-21 award winner Anthony Rice.

As usual, all matches consist of five frames and are played off scratch every other Thursday at Salisbury SC. One point is awarded for each frame won with a bonus point for the match winner.

The league was founded in 2005 in memory of former Durrington professional Graham Lee, who died suddenly in 2004 at the age of 44.
