Archie sees the Light

LYMINGTON lad Archie Light discovered the secret to success on the junior snooker circuit in south London.

The 12-year-old said practising hard and trying his best helped him cross the winning line for the first time on the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour.

Watched by his proud parents, Craig and Vikki, Light beat Oliver Donnelly (Wandsworth) 2-1 in the final of the sixth leg at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon.

It was the only frame he dropped out of 12 all day.

“It feels good,” he said. “I struggled in a couple of frames (but) I played well and I was potting well and I tried my best.”

Talking about his preparation, he added: “I practised all week – apart from Tuesday.”

Light made his debut in Salisbury in September, 2022 and is now ranked in fourth place in his third season.

The previous day, he clinched third place in the Eastleigh & District Under-19 League at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club. In previous seasons, he won the Under-13 title twice.

Donnelly had a good win over his Surrey Snooker Academy clubmate Alex Scotney to reach his first final.

Sam Perkins (New Milton) remains top of the rankings despite losing in the last-16 to Stanley Sims (Woking).

Scotney (Sutton), who celebrated his ninth birthday by recording his highest break of 38 in his quarter-final victory over Ben Taylor-Jenkins (Hedge End), moves up to second place. Marshal Denieffe (London) is third.

The event was sponsored by Frames Sports Bar (framessportsbar.com) and snookerdad Tan Jeraj.

Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon, also hosts the seventh leg of ten on Sunday, February 16.
