Bubb beats teammate Donovan to claim Silver success
SIMON Bubb overcame his Gone2Pot teammate John Donovan in the final of the second leg of the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour at Woking Snooker Centre.
The 18-year-old from Ealing Common ended ten hours of virtually non-stop competition with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
It’s fair to say that both players were running on fumes in the deciding frame.
Bubb said: “We both had a long day. John did play well in the final.
“I plateaued a bit during the day and got better in my semi-final match.”
Bubb is based at Cousins, a snooker and pool club in Holloway, but is coached by John Woods, along with Donovan (Camden Town), at Kings Cross Hurricane Room.
First-leg winner Samuel Laxton (Portsmouth) remains top of the rankings. The 16-year-old dropped only one of his 12 round-robin frames before losing 2-0 to Donovan in the last-four.
In the second semi, 11-year-old Harry Wyatt (Ferndown), who made a 52 break in the group stages, lost 2-1 on the final black to Bubb.
The event was sponsored by Chris Gaynor, who runs snookerzone.co.uk, and his brother-in-law Alex Hoff, boss of helicopter training outfit Hoff Aviation.
Please note date change! Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon, hosts the third leg of eight on Sunday, January 30.
