Channel Islander wins his first trophy
ARCHIE Greier, who had never played in any form of snooker competition until the day before, collected the Plate winner’s trophy at Fareham Snooker Club.
The nine-year-old from Jersey beat Adam Abbas (Brighton) in the final of the knockout for non-qualifiers during the eighth legs of the Cuestars Under-21 Gold, Silver and Bronze Tours.
Archie had only practised or played friendly matches before setting off for a long weekend in England.
He flew into Southampton Airport on Friday and had two hours with WPBSA coach Tim Dunkley at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club that afternoon followed by a practice match.
Archie then made his competitive debut in the club’s Saturday morning junior leagues and played in the handicapped Open Series after lunch.
