Ellise wins first Bronze tournament

ELLISE Scott (pictured) is the first girl to win a leg of the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour for nearly six years.

The 11-year-old from Eastleigh beat her Chandler’s Ford clubmate Christopher Woodward 2-0 in the final at Salisbury Snooker Club

Scott, who had lost to Woodward in the round-robin group stages, admitted it was a close match.

“They were both tight frames,” she said. “I was getting very nervous and then I started believing in myself.”

And clutching her first winner’s trophy, she added: “I feel very happy and excited.”

Scott, whose highest break in competition is 32, last tasted success when she won the ten-day long Easter Cup at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club in 2019 aged seven.

Last season, she reached the quarter-finals of the southern section of the PowerGlide English Under-14 Championship.

Woodward, appearing in his fifth ranking tournament, was unbeaten in his five-man round-robin group to qualify for the knockout for the first time and then won third-frame deciders against Jaydon Elliott (Swindon) and Lennon Savage (Southampton) to reach the final.

The last girl to win a Bronze event was Chloe White in October, 2016, in Swindon. She beat a 12-year-old Riley Ellis 2-1 in the final.

Seven players were promoted to Silver over the summer and we welcomed seven new faces to the Bronze Tour in Salisbury: Fabian Bernal (Tunbridge Wells), Ben Scammell (Amesbury), Archie Light (Lymington), Oliver Donnelly (Wandsworth), Lee Clayden (Chingford), Rayan El Qmache (London) and William Hurley (Rayleigh), who progressed the furthest before losing 2-0 to Scott in the semi-finals.

Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon, hosts the second leg of ten on Sunday, October 2.
