Harry ‘The Potter’ nears Cuestars record
A FIFTH tournament success of the season has taken Harry ‘The Potter’ Wyatt within touching distance of a place in a regional junior snooker circuit’s records book.
The ten-year-old from Ferndown is virtually certain of becoming the youngest Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour rankings champion in the 11-year history of the competition.
Wyatt overcame first-time finalist Daniel Walter (Portsmouth) 2-0 in the seventh leg at Fareham Snooker Club.
Earlier, he won all four of his group matches, dropped his only frame of the day in a 2-1 last-eight victory over Thomas McEvoy (Warminster) and beat his Chandlers Ford clubmate William Thomson 2-0 in the semi-finals.
It was the furthest that seven-year-old Thomson had ever been.
Wyatt said: “I was relieved to win. I didn’t play my best but when the pressure balls needed potting, I seemed to find something.
“I loved playing William as we practise together. He is a Bronze winner of the future for sure.
“I was also really pleased for Daniel making his first final as he has been consistent in making the knockouts all year but never quite made the final.”
Walter, 15, moved up to second place in the rankings. Nine-year-old Caden Read (Chandler’s Ford), who posted a new high break of 28 against Tyler Mack (Waterlooville) in the group stages, is third.
Debutant George Knowles (Gravesend) topped his group but lost 2-1 to Thomson in the quarter-finals. Ryan Kneller (Waterlooville) was denied a first appearance in a final by a close 2-1 last-four defeat by Walter.
There were 23 runners.
Top Spot Snooker Club, Havant, hosts the eighth leg of ten on Sunday, March 15.
