Mason: I wasn’t expecting that!

MASON Wilson admitted he wasn’t expecting much from his trip to south London for the second leg of the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour.

But the 19-year-old from Basingstoke was last man standing from a large field of 22 at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon.

Wilson’s third Cuestars winner’s trophy came at the expense of Daniel Walter (Portsmouth).

Following his 2-0 victory in the final, Wilson said: “I always have tough battles against him.

“Over the last couple of seasons, my game has improved quite a bit.

“(But) I took three months off during the summer because I was too busy working delivering leaflets so I didn’t really expect a win today.”

And starting a product design engineering course at Bournemouth University has left even less time to hone his skills.

Wilson moves into second place behind rankings leader Gus Walker (Brighton).

Last season’s Bronze rankings champion Jack Squires (Gosport) put together a personal best 58 break in his group-stage victory over Lennon Savage (Southampton).
