Mum’s the word for Silver champion Zain

ZAIN Jeraj was inspired to put in a championship winning performance on the green baize by the imminent arrival of his mother.

It meant the 13-year-old from Tooting was able to collect his second title-winning trophy in two years from guest professional Joe Perry.

Last season’s Bronze rankings winner defeated Harry Wyatt (Ferndown) 2-0 in the final of the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour Championship at Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon.

Time constraints forced organisers to reduce each frame to six reds.

Jeraj said: “You have to make sure every single shot is inch perfect otherwise the frame is probably done.”

Earlier, he beat rankings winner Samuel Laxton (Portsmouth) 2-1 in the last-four.

“Samuel is a brilliant player,” said Jeraj.

“He went 1-0 ahead and then my dad told me my mum was coming so I thought now I’m definitely not going to lose.”

Ayan Roy (London) made his highest Cuestars break of 30 in the group stage. Caden Read (Chandler’s Ford) reached the semi-finals for the first time since earning promotion from Bronze.
