Trowbridge A clinch Team Challenge

Andrew Mayell, Jake White, Daniel Tallentire and  Daniel Winfield (pictured) won the crunch match 4-2, and went on to defeat Gosport Stoke Allstars by the same score in the final.

If Eastleigh had turned over Trowbridge AND won the final, the sides would have ended the series on equal points.

Team manager Steve White said: “When the draw was done at the beginning of the day we all knew it was an all-or-nothing match.”

And White insisted that clinching the last Cuestars Section Team Challenge title, in its present format, was a team effort.

He paid tribute to squad players Thomas Hilborne, Andrew Dyer and Simon Clossman who helped the side chalk up some “fantastic results”.

Eastleigh manager Cliff Goodchild said: “Trowbridge A are a strong team.”

Forced to move south when Trowbridge Snooker Club shut, the awesome foursome have reached the last four finals on the South of England tour from their new base in Westbury.

In fact, they have only been beaten this season by teams from Jesters SC, Swindon, and The Academy, Eastleigh.

They lost the Winchester final to Eastleigh A and the Gosport final to Eastleigh B. Then followed three defeats by Jesters A: in the semi-finals in Swindon, the quarter-finals in Basingstoke and the final again in Swindon. Victory at Chandler’s Ford was followed by defeat by Jesters B in the Eastleigh final.

Eastleigh A finished second, Jesters A third and Eastleigh B fourth.

Reading A overcame Jesters B 4-2 in the Plate final to claim tenth spot.

FINAL (25/18 points): Trowbridge A bt Gosport Stoke Allstars 4-2.
